Lady Luck Casino closed down in mid February for a major refurbishment of
the property for the first time in its 42 year history. What will become of the
Lady Luck is still in question, as is the name of the property. The Lady Luck
Casino was purchased by the Harry Brent Co., and the plans for the property
are still unfolding. Harry Brent currently operates several Timbers gaming
pubs in and around Las Vegas.

Virginia Perkins, the general manager of the Lady Luck, said that "We know
that it was going to be such a major endeavor that it did not make sense to
keep the casino open and inconvenience our guests and employees." The
casino has permanently laid off all of its 689 employees as the refurbishment
begins.

The Lady Luck Casino opened in 1964 as Honest John's, a smoke shop with a
handful of employees, some pinball machines, and a mere 2,000 square feet
of floor space. The property opened for full gaming in 1972 and the 16 story,
300 room tower was added to the casino in 1985, along with new
restaurants and casino gaming floor. The second tower opened in 1989.
